Livin' in limbo.

Friday the 28th:

okay, I admit it, this isn't going as smoothly as I'd hoped.

Yesterday I had to leave to pay bills and run errands all day, I was running back and forth from garage to new house, wasting time and becoming irritated!  Some things have been moved, some not, mostly not...

We've been eating and sleeping in the new house since Tuesday, I carried what I needed to cook the first meal down in my arms in one trip, each meal since has been prepared using the same pans because I haven't moved anything else.

The water softener has not been moved yet, so laundry and showers are still done in the garage, except for Chris, who showers in the new house using the hard water.  So, yesterday I took a shower in the garage, then realized that contact lenses, toothbrush, etc. were at the new house.  So, I had to run back in there to finish getting ready.  I also have discovered that I'm too short to get close to the bathroom mirrors to do...ummm..close up work. I will have to use a huge make up mirror that I have- somewhere....

There are a hundred different things in a day like that.  I've had a busy week with appointments and such, after this afternoon I'll be able to start moving stuff, because I'm tired of living in limbo.

One thing we can't wait to move is the wood stove!  We're not accustomed to paying for heat, and Rod reports every day how the propane level gauge is dropping!  Plus, I just love that constant, toasty warm, heat...

The satellite guy can't come until the 2nd of February, so tv and Internet are still at the garage, and not getting much use.  I really miss tv, I didn't realize how much I have the tv turned on until I didn't have it anymore.  I don't actually WATCH tv much, I just have it turned on. It's very, very, quiet at the new house..

From now on the new house will be called, "home", or "the house", no more "new house".  The garage will be called, "the garage".

I'll have some pictures next time I post.

Random Pictures...

Sunday the 23rd:

Harley just isn't getting it- you can see the question in his eyes- "why are we here, what's going on?"  I think he'll relax after we've spent a few nights there, at this house he'll get to do something he's never done before, sleep on the floor beside my bed!

Speaking of my side of the bed...our new bed is very high, hip high on me!  I'll have to get a good run to get into it!  Rod said,"you could be seriously injured if you fall out of bed".

The refrigerator is finally out of the garage and in it's cubby!  Now I need to fill it..

Rod hung some things on the wall this weekend, a shelf in the utility room, and in this picture he's studying how to hang up his next project.

I've discovered that I don't quite know where to begin, I just have too much stuff, it seems.. I have all my craft stuff carried to the office now, I just don't know how I can get it all in the cabinets I have, I don't think I will. I have to decide what I probably won't need very often, put it in a box, and keep it somewhere else.  The cabinets on the far left have to be saved for computer stuff, which isn't in this picture, that stuff hasn't been carried down yet.

And the sun set on this very, very cold day...

No, not yet!

Saturday the 22nd:

SUNSHINE!!

It is 5.3 degree's outside, warmed up from the 3.0 degree's it was when I got up this morning, and the 0.5 degree low of the overnight temperatures.

The inspector that issues the occupancy permit came yesterday and we did not pass, there are two things that need fixed.  The outlet covers in the appliance garages and behind the microwave have to be changed, my understanding is that they can't be flush against the wall.  That's an easy fix.  The second issue is that our furnace is too big for the size of the room that it is in- by about 3".  Apparently, when the furnace comes on it sucks air from around it to ignite, the area around it has to meet size requirements based on the size of the furnace.  If the hall wall in that room was out 3" more the room would meet the size requirements.  There are several options to fix that problem, the one that was chosen is to cut two holes in the hall wall, one at floor level, one at ceiling level, and cover them with registers.  So, when the furnace comes on, it can suck air in from the hallway too.

While we can't occupy the house yet, I am starting to move things in...TODAY!

As soon as my coffee cup is empty, I'm going to go put a shine on the master bedroom floor.  When that's dry I'll have Chris help me set up the bed (Rod's at work), then he's going to make numerous trips from garage to house carrying all the boxes with my office supplies in them.

The first of many busy days ahead...

So many little things..

Wednesday the 19th:

Rod had jury duty yesterday, he was not chosen and was home by early afternoon, so he and Chris dug two holes to set the poles for our two satellite dishes.  That worked out well!

Most of the lights have been lowered, only one more to go, after some furniture is carried in.

Mirror frame that goes with the dresser has had new glass and is hung, I decided to have it hang on the wall above the sink instead of sitting it on the dresser top so it stays dry.

And, the office countertops were installed today...they're sparkly..I guess you can't really see the sparkles in this picture, but I love it that they sparkle!

Cleaning....

Monday the 17th:

The flooring guys finished today....

Chris and Rich are doing things, you know, all those things that need doin'.....

At the end of today they were busy cleaning up, but there're still things that need doin'...

The refrigerator is still in the garage, I can't wait to see that in it's place.....

Our assignment for Tuesday evening, we will move the new furniture that's stored in the garage into the house, if they get done with what they're doin' by the end of the day Tuesday.  Then on Wednesday they will clean out the garage and paint it.

Then we wait for the inspector to do his thing and issue an "occupancy permit".

Here are a few random pics I took this afternoon.

Chris is sitting on his bedroom floor, the last floor that was done. Neither Chris or Harley look like they want to pose for a picture.

The mirror in the master bath and the faucets were installed today...

Waiting for the word...

Friday the 14th:

Chris and Rich are wrapping things up, Chris said he hopes to be finished up by the end of next week!  So, what is that word I'm waiting for?  GO!!

I feel like a racer at the start line, I spend long moments visualizing where to put things, even how the process of moving in should...well, proceed....

I thought I would start by cleaning, but Chris told me I wouldn't have any cleaning to do...so, I'll wait to see before I get my bucket and mop.

Here are two pictures of the baseboards, now that the wood floor is done the baseboards can be installed.  The only floor that isn't done is the floor in the master bedroom and the carpeting in Chris' room.

So, I guess as the next week goes along I'll just have pictures of finished projects to post.  Then our work begins....

What got done on Wednesday...

Wednesday the 12th:

This is all the progress I had to take a picture of today...the shower tile was grouted on the end wall, that was all that got done in the master bath, nothing more was done on the master bedroom floor....I don't know if they are coming back to work tomorrow or not...I hope so, I made them a lasagna and rolls...

Not done yet - kitchen, hallway on right.  Harley is inspecting the work.

Counter tops and flooring!!

Wednesday the 12th:

After a very long delay while waiting for the humidity level to go down, things are finally moving along again.  Two floor guys were here yesterday (1/11/11) and started laying the wood flooring in the master bedroom and the living area.  I am happy to report that they (and a few more) are back on the job this morning, despite the snowfall. On their to-do list is; finish the wood flooring, grout the master bath shower tiles, and lay carpeting in Chris's room... I'm not positive about this, but I think they could be done in a few days with a full crew working full days.  Right now it's snowing like crazy, in the past, this sort of weather has sent them scurrying out of here, off Brown Hill, and back to Meadville... We'll see if they get a full day in today!  So, coming up next are flooring pictures.  Master bedroom shots first;

Standing in the bathroom, closet on the left.

Opposite shot from above, back against the wall looking toward bathroom.

Start on the living room floor.

Kitchen Counter Tops

The guy on the right, the one without a hat on, is the counter top guy, Bill Wisniewski. The guy with a hat is his helper, the guy on the left is Chris Fuller, the contractor.  The counter top guy didn't get here until 4:30 p.m. he was here until 10:30.

Next picture is a guy I haven't taken a picture of yet- Nick, Chris Fuller"s guy, Nick on a bucket, waiting for Chris because their day is done.
The next day I took pictures of the counter tops from all angles...
When the floor is done, the fridge will go into the spot where the lawn chair is now
There will be four counter height chairs on the left side of the island, facing....what do you think?  What  will be hanging on the wall above the arch over the range top?  How well do you know Rod?
Is anyone ready to come on out and cook/eat with us??
Ok, that's it for now, hopefully there will be pics of finished floors by the end of the day!!

Trimming the arches, and the finished shower wall.

Thursday the 6th:

Yesterday the last of the trim was delivered, which was the trim for the arches in the windows.  The glass block shower wall was finished yesterday.  Today the trim is being installed on the arches.  The humidity level is dropping in the house as Chris Fuller thought it would after the concrete floor was poured in the crawl space, so I have my fingers crossed that the wood floors will be laid next week.  Tomorrow the kitchen counter tops will be installed...progress that we can see!

Concrete and glass blocks.

Tuesday the 4th:

This morning about 7:30-ish the truck with the concrete pumper arrived, the concrete guys hooked the line up.  It went from the pump, around the front of the house to the side where the door to the crawl space is at. Three cement trucks came throughout the morning, it was all over around 2:00. I did not take a picture of the crawl space before, during, or after...  I did take pictures of the guys getting ready to pump the concrete to the crawl space.

setting up the line that will pump the concrete to the crawl space.

The concrete truck dumping concrete into the pumper.

Lou Bruno and Joe, from Glass Block Specialties came today to start on the shower wall in the master bath.
Lou is on the left, Joe on the right.
This is how far they went today, they have to let the mortar dry before they put any more blocks on. I think they're at the row where a few colored blocks will go in.  When the wall is done the shower tile will be finished up to the glass block, then the shower tiles and the glass block will be grouted.

Random pictures on the first day of 2011.

1-1-11

Rod, Chris and I bought light bulbs for the new house, there are still two lights that need bulbs since they take some unusual type of bulb.  Incredibly bored as I was, I actually took pictures of the fixtures now that they have bulbs in them. Rod left the plastic coverings on the lights to protect them from dust, except the master bedroom light. With all the bulbs in the light, the shade got to hot, and we certainly don't want plastic melting all over the shade!

The kitchen is nice and bright, just as I hoped it would be! I will still want some sort of light over the baking counter though.

A mantle will go under the sconces in the pic below, and our wood stove will be there, you can see where the stovepipe will go into the ceiling.

The office light, I will have to have a desk lamp, and a work light over the table that will be on the right.

Some pictures of the vanity in the master bath, this is an antique buffet that I found on Craig's List and bought from a local couple who were selling their house and moving to a retirement community. I refinished it, although it still needs a little work done on it someday. The faucets will be mounted on the wall above the sink.  My job this week is to get measurements and go somewhere and order the mirrors for both bathrooms.  Chris Fuller suggested I get a mirror with holes cut into it for the faucets, if I don't the mirror will be to high for me to see my reflection...

The last pics are of the ceiling light in the master bedroom..which we just love! I had already chose a paint color (slate blue), and even purchased a bedspread to match...then I saw this light fixture while shopping on the Internet, and I loved it, I bought it, and it changed all my plans.  The paint color changed to Dusty Rose, but I kept the bedspread because it has a lot of brown in it along with the slate blue, and I think it will be ok. Also, I looked for another bedspread and there wasn't anything else that I liked or that had so many matching accessories that came with it. The first pic is with the light off, then a pic with the light on...

                                                                            light off..

                                                                                                   light on

Ok, that was boring day pictures.  This week is supposed to be a busy one, so check back often to see what's new!
